New Zealand Pine

New Zealand pine is plantation grown, renewable and sustainable, providing the ideal alternative to threatened tropical timbers. The expanding pine resource in New Zealand ensures sustainable harvest levels for years to come. The result is a natural wood product from a renewable resource.

New Zealand Pine has a light-coloured sapwood. Exposure to the sun leads to a yellowing finish. No special finishing techniques are needed for a uniform finished appearance.

Overview

New Zealand Pine are created by selective sawing and processing, with low manufacturing energy inputs. The result is a natural wood product from a renewable resource.

New Zealand Pine has unique properties among the world’s wood species in that total treatment of sapwood is always achievable. It is very amenable to manipulation of preservative treatment processes, which are environmentally acceptable and give a consistent standard of treatment

Application

New Zealand pine is an extremely versatile softwood and well suited for a range of structural and appearance applications. The light consistent colour of pine readily accepts stains and its general properties make it ideal for painting.

New Zealand Pine is a medium density softwood suitable for a wide range of applications including packaging, construction (and engineered wood products) and furniture

Workability

New Zealand Pine works well with both hand and machine tools. Glues and finishes well.

All though New Zealand Pine is not naturally durable, the highly permeable sapwood makes it easy to treat with a range of chemical preservatives. Total treatment of the sapwood can be easily achieved, and the heart wood can also be effectively treated to levels required for in-ground applications.
