Project Details

This residential project at Lor 1 Toa Payoh showcases a cohesive carpentry language carried across the kitchen and bedroom, anchored by black-finished rubberwood and classic detailing.

The overall style leans towards a modern classic aesthetic — clean panelled forms, strong vertical and horizontal lines, and a restrained palette of deep black contrasted with warm brass accents and light surfaces. The consistent use of shaker-style profiles introduces depth and rhythm, while subtle moulding details and proportion control elevate the space beyond standard built-ins.

Rubberwood, selected for its stability and fine grain, is finished in a matte black tone to achieve a bold yet timeless presence. The material’s workability allows for precise paneling, tight joints, and integrated storage solutions, demonstrating the advantage of custom carpentry in achieving visual continuity across different spaces. Brass handles and fittings punctuate the dark surfaces, adding warmth and a refined touch without overpowering the composition.

In the kitchen, the cabinetry frames the space with a structured, tailored look, balancing functionality with visual weight. In the bedroom, full-height storage and a long, low chest of drawers create a calm and grounded environment, reinforcing the same design language for a seamless transition between rooms.

This project highlights how custom carpentry enables a unified spatial narrative — where material, form, and finish are carefully controlled to define the character of the home.
